GOLD COAST 500: WATERS ADVANCES AS RANDLE FIGHTS BACK

Cam Waters advances in the Supercars Finals as Tickford Racing battles through a challenging weekend on the Gold Coast.

The streets of Surfers Paradise came alive for the 2026 Gold Coast 500, with challenging weather conditions and plenty of on-track action making for an eventful weekend for Tickford Racing drivers Cam Waters and Thomas Randle.

With the opening round of the Supercars Finals Series underway, there was plenty on the line for Waters in the #6 Monster Energy Mustang, while Randle was looking to deliver a strong performance in the #55 Castrol Mustang.

Waters keeps championship hopes alive

Saturday's race presented plenty of challenges, with heavy rain creating difficult racing conditions around the tight Gold Coast street circuit.

Starting from 8th, Waters battled through the wet conditions to finish eighth, collecting valuable championship points despite ongoing grip challenges.

Sunday brought improved weather and another determined drive from Waters, who crossed the line in seventh position. Importantly, his results were enough to secure progression to the next round of the Supercars Finals Series, keeping his championship hopes alive heading into Sandown.

Randle fights back with a strong Sunday performance

For Thomas Randle, the weekend proved challenging, particularly during Saturday's rain-affected race, where tyre vibration and grip issues impacted his performance.

However, Sunday provided a positive turnaround for the #55 Castrol Mustang driver.

Starting from 19th on the grid, Randle delivered an impressive recovery drive, gaining nine positions to finish 10th. It was a strong effort that demonstrated his determination and ability to fight through the field despite the challenges faced throughout the weekend.

Looking ahead to Sandown

While the Gold Coast 500 wasn't without its challenges for Tickford Racing, there were plenty of positives to take away, particularly with Waters remaining in championship contention and Randle finishing the weekend with a top-ten result.

The team now turns its attention to the Sandown 500 on 6–8 November, where Waters will continue his fight for a place in the Supercars Championship decider.
